The Neil Maya Quartet
presents
THE BRUBECK PROJECT
|
For many people, the sound of Dave Brubeck’s ‘Take 5’ is the sound of jazz. This popular American pianist and composer, who died just a few years ago, did more than perhaps anyone to bring jazz into the popular mainstream. Now Totnes-based musician Neil Maya has put together a group of some of the finest musicians in the South West to authentically reproduce the best known Dave Brubeck recordings. |
The band (which features pianist Matt Carter, Nick Carter on drums, Kevin Sanders on double Bass and Neil himself on saxophones) have recently performed numerous sell-out shows including appearing at the 2016 Teignmouth Jazz Festival, as well as several shows for Devon's ‘Villages in Action’ scheme, and are currently putting the finishing touches to their new live CD/DVD.
Let this superb quartet immerse you in the cool sounds of one of the world’s greatest jazz bands, the Dave Brubeck Quartet, for an evening playing such classics as "Blue Rondo A La Turk", "Unsquare Dance" and of course "Take Five". In the first half the quartet play other standards and some of the band’s own well-loved compositions to thrill and excite. In the second half the band devotes itself entirely to Brubeck.
